Momentum continues with 7th annual Lakeshore Harvest Ride fundraiser!

This past September 15th, over 400 cyclists took part in the annual ride through the countryside between Saugatuck and South Haven.  Cyclists were treated to spectacular weather, the chance to visit and shop at a number of local attractions including wineries, cider mills, orchards, maple syrup, berry farms, art, and more.  As a special feature of the Lakeshore Harvest Ride – cyclists could make purchases at any of the locations along the way and the volunteer shopping concierge service then transported the packages for the participants back to their original starting location for pick-up.

In total, thanks to the sponsors and participants, the Lakeshore Harvest Ride generated more than $17,000 to support engineering and construction of the Blue Star Trail.

The Ride had two starting locations – the Kal-Haven trailhead in South Haven and Schultz Park in Douglas.  Riders enjoyed snacks and water at various points of interest along the way (all staffed by volunteers from Friends of the Blue Star Trail) as well as lunch at the Glenn Community Center, Schultz Park, and South Haven.

Clark Carmichael, Vice President of Friends of the Blue Star Trail and Chair of the Lakeshore Harvest Ride said “We had a number of participants from Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio as well as all over Michigan visit us.  This continues to demonstrate the strong appeal of our area and the ongoing need for safe bicycling opportunities.”

John Adams, President of Friends of the Blue Star Trail added “The generous support of our sponsors, participants, and volunteers enables us to continue building momentum towards completion of the Blue Star Trail which will not only serve current residents and visitors, but also our children and their children.”
